Hello dear parents, and welcome back to our Makes kids happier center episode. Today, we dive deep into one of the most chaotic parts of the day for many families – the morning rush.

and I want to discuss with you about the actions that we as parents need to take to make our mornings more pleasant!

Mornings are a race against time! The window for getting organized is very short, starting from waking the children up and extending to directing chores heard throughout the house – Have you dressed? Brushed your teeth? Don’t forget your homework! Often, it feels like we are shouting at our children, and they shout back…

So, where do we start to bring order to this chaos?

I would like to share with you six steps that can help you effect change with your children:

The first step – Involve them. Involve the children in the entire morning routine process! While it may only be an hour a day, if we properly organize the house, our mornings will be less stressful. Begin by discussing the topic during a family dinner! Talk about your desire to make mornings more enjoyable. Invite them to participate in this process and encourage them to bring their own ideas to the table. By involving your children, you foster a sense of teamwork and shared responsibility. This not only lightens your load but also strengthens family bonds.

The second step – Establish a schedule. Together with your children, determine the amount of time required for each family member’s morning routine, from the moment of waking up until leaving the house. Take into consideration the pace of the children and your own pace. A clear schedule reduces uncertainty and last-minute rushes. By understanding everyone’s pace, you can better anticipate potential delays, ensuring a smoother morning for yourself.

The third step – Transition morning tasks to the evening. Preparing clothes for the next day or food that can be made in advance will save a significant amount of time in the morning.

Shifting tasks to the evening allows you to distribute your responsibilities more evenly, reducing the morning pressure and giving you a more relaxed start to the day.

The fourth step – Time management. Rather than continuously reminding and shouting about the lack of time, shift the focus to the actual time. Tell them What time is it now? And what time do we need to leave?

Decide that each day one person will give a 15-minute warning and a 5-minute warning before it’s time to leave the house, ensuring everyone is ready on time. By emphasizing time awareness, you reduce the need for constant reminders, making your mornings less stressful. This approach also empowers your children to be more self-reliant, giving you a sense of accomplishment as a guiding parent.

The fifth step – Swap shouting with music. infuse your mornings with the joy of music. Letting the melodies of happy tunes fill the air can significantly elevate the mood of the household. To make it even more engaging, involve your children in the process. Allow them to choose a playlist every evening that will be played the next morning. This not only gives them a sense of responsibility and anticipation but also ensures that the chosen music resonates with their preferences. Starting the day with their favorite tunes can make mornings feel like a celebration, ensuring everyone is happier and fully charged for the day ahead.

And the final, crucial part – start the day with encouragement. Energize them! Provide them with the emotional fuel they need to start their day in a more empowering way. Celebrate the wonderful things they’ve accomplished in the morning! Encourage the child who struggles to get up but managed to do so on time, recognizing how their effort helped everyone leave the house on time. Praise the child who helped their younger sibling get dressed, acknowledging how their assistance benefited the entire family.

Remember, the goal is to uplift each child and make them feel good about themselves, avoid creating competition among the children – who’s ready first? Who helped the most? Competitions might leave a happy winner but also a disappointed loser, which is not the outcome we desire.

As we wrap up today’s deep dive, I hope these practical steps help bring more calm, peace, and joy to your morning routines. Please join us to our next episode and Until next time, continue to create environments where our kids can thrive, laugh, and be happy.
